Memorial: Sister Mert Wilks Hanspard

Sister Mert Wilks Hanspard was born to the late Joseph and Clara Wilks in Simsboro, Louisiana on December 1, 1928. She was the fifth child of ten children. She was raised in Lincoln Parish.

At an early age she accepted Christ in Simsboro, Louisiana with the Rocky Valley Baptist Church Family. She later united with the Saint Peter Baptist Church Family. After Holy Matrimony she joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Family and remained until death. She served on the Deaconess Board and Mission Band.

She attended High School at Jasper Henderson High School in Chatham, Louisiana. She was employed at Louisiana State Highway Department of Transportation & Central High School Cafeteria.

Her parents, Joseph and Clara Wilks, on son, Curtis Ray Hanspard, one daughter, Reverend Bobbie Jean Gholston, and four sisters, Mae Lea Peevy, Irene Hanspard, Lurlene Elmore, and Emily Lea Brooks, one brother Isaiah Modest proceeded her in death.

On July 28, 1945, she united in Holy Matrimony to Curtis Lee Hanspard and to this union ten children were born. She leaves to cherish her memories; Husband, Reverend Curtis Lee Hanspard; Sons, Reverend Terrance Hanspard, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Gerry Hanspard, Calhoun, Louisiana, Reverend Michael Hanspard (Norvel), Monroe, Louisiana, Reverend Fredrick Zeigler; Daughters, Evangelist Liller Lawrence (Richard), Reverend Bertha L. Benton (Clifton), Reverend Johnnie Kay Hanspard, Shirley Dean Thompson (William) Marietta, Georgia, Evangelist Mert Denise McIntyre, Compton, California, Reverend Eula Holmes, Monroe, Louisiana, 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grand children, three brothers; Elton Wilks (Bettie) Arcadia, Louisiana, Willie Lee Wilks (Ruth) Dallas, Texas, one son-in-law, Herbert Gholston, two sisters; Clara Mae Toston (Jerry), Ruston, Louisiana, Mertis Stringfellow (Odell) her twin sister,  sister-in-law on husband side of family, Margarette Elaine Taylor, Calhoun, Louisiana, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
