"Grace, Good Works, Unity, Poetry"
Brother Richard Henry Myles
Alpha November 4, 1874
Omega July 14, 1953

Service Sunday, July 19, 1953

November 4, 1874 saw the sunrise on a new life at Old Vernon in Jackson Parish, Louisiana. The late Mr. James Henry Myles and Mrs. Tulip Myles named their first child Richard Henry. They were well proud of their freedom from slavery and dedicated this their first offspring to a life of service for humanity.

He was educated in the public schools of Jackson Parish and had a burning zeal to further his education, graduating from the George R. Smith College, Sedalia, Missouri.

His christian service included Deacon of the Mt. Pleasant Church, educational director of the New Hope Associate, director of Ministers and Laymen's Institute and an exemplary christian life wherever he happened to be.

Mr. Myles was wed to the late Miss Fannie Calloway in 1901 and to this union was born eleven children -- ten now survive, Mesdames Lucelia Facen, Judenia Reeder, Ruth Woods, Tulip Wiley, Bernestine Hayden, Zilphia Johnson, Fannie Andrews, Messrs. Rubin, Booker T. and Phillip Myles. Mrs. Minnie L. Myles, second wife, also survives along with two brothers Frank and V. S. B. Myles; one sister Mrs. Minerva Johnson; twelve grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Mr. Myles's sun set Tuesday July 14, 1953 at 4:00 P.M. He was developing the following Bible lesson plan which was typical of him in every way.
