Memorial: Deacon Earnest Jackson

"For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God"
Deacon Earnest Jackson
Alpha August 18, 1909
Omega November 22, 2008
Service Saturday, November 29, 2008
Deacon Ernest Jackson was born to the union of  the late Curtis and Josephine Watt Jackson in the St. Luke Community on August 18, 1909. He was one of seven children: Hardye, Newt, Willie, Emma and Rose Jackson (all deceased) and Laura Jackson (living).  He was baptized at the age of 8 years old and united with St. Luke and later with Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, both in West Monroe, Louisiana. He married the late Essie B. Bowers on April 18, 1930 and to this union four children were born: Ivory and Robert Jackson (deceased), Lillie Mae Jackson Franklin and Curtis Jackson.

He was a Deacon at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church until his transition into eternal glory. We give God glory for it was the heart's desire of the family that he would not be sick nor suffer, and upon hospital inquiry, the reason for his departure was, "ninety-nine years old" and "his body simply wore out".
He departed this life Saturday morning, November 22, 2008, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe, Louisiana. He leaves to cherish his memory a sister, Laura Jackson, San Diego, California; two children, a devoted caring daughter and son-in-law, Lillie (Reverend Melvin) Franklin and Curtis Jackson of West Monroe, Louisiana; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren, one Roderick Carroll (preceded him in death); one great-great grandchild; one nephew whom he reared, George (Jack) Britton of Monroe, Louisiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
